The man was lying spread eagle on the road. The blood was
flowing out of the body like it does when you spill a bottle of wine on table. The dogs were coming in, sniffing and making strange noises which you don't get to hear often. The crowd was not much, only a bit or two passing by with eyebrows raised, some stooping down to check, some busy with phones faking just a mere stare. By the time it was afternoon, the crowd which gathered around the body was huge. You can hear the buzzing of people discussing together from the distant.
As more people joined the crowd the more bizarre amount of reactions you could ample out of them. All sorts were humming- you can find brokers, bankers, shoppers, shoplifters, pickpockets - trying desperately to nique something from pockets as most were busy discussing and looking for expertise in the matter. Some stated 'Isn't this the mad guy from that neighbourhood?' Some stated ' No No! this is not him! This guy is an anti social!' I watched while juggling the cricket ball in my petite hands. The sun was up top, but nobody cared. All they cared was about the body. The Blue van arrived around 1pm by then the crowd has gone thin a bit. Two policemen got down from the Van another guy with a camera got down and started clicking pictures as soon as he hit the ground. The policemen discussed something in undertone- words like hit and run , murder- whispered in my ears.
The body was taken away by another two men wearing white and carrying a stretcher. While the policemen were boarding the van the onlookers asked - ' Sir what could be the reason that this might have happened?'all that was heard was 'It will be declared after the post mortem.' It was Saturday... My whole city was calm and composed. The government had declared a curfew in the city. People are not allowed to walk in groups today. They might be held as prisoners for not abiding the rules. Dad was out of station, Mom was cooking delicious delicacies as one middle class family could manage. I, on the other hand was getting bored. The TV was set on a news channel with a woman draping a sari talking about serious issues and what is happening around. I was looking here and there mostly out of the window, looking at the sky and wondering what might my friends be doing? I looked around the corner, my red cricket ball peeked at me from the back of my father's favourite couch. I picked up the ball and started juggling as usual but the boredom was not easy to lay off. I stared back at the TV the scoreline was running fast with a news of a man escaping from the prison who might be armed and that the police are in alert for him. As the boredom took its toll I got up from my chair and started moving towards the kitchen to grab a bite when a loud whistle captivated my ears.
I thought it was the monkey juggler back in town again. I leaped and ran towards the window to take a glimpse of the funny monkeys wearing funnier dresses. The cricket ball slipped out of my hand and took a bump in my window sill, finally resting its bounce in the street beneath. I ran downstairs to fetch my favourite cricket ball before somebody else takes it away. As soon as I came out of the main entrance, I found a man with bushy hair looking at me with red eyes. I was scared by the looks of him, it was like something cold brushed down my spine. I was about to turn my back on him when I stole a glimpse of his hand which was grabbing my favourite cricket ball. I wanted my cricket ball back- I approached the man. A loud noise deafened my ears and I could feel a strange pain coming from the middle of my chest. I looked down; something red was oozing out of my chest and it was not stopping. I heard a strange laugh coming out from the man's mouth. I looked up, The Blue sky was turning Grey gradually-
Maybe Mom was still humming her cooking song and wondering
when I would rush to the kitchen all hungry. I was lying spread eagle on the road. The blood was flowing out of the body like it does when you spill a bottle of wine on table. The dogs were coming in, sniffing and making strange noises which you don't get to hear often...
